Federal Long-Term Care Program (CLASS) Dismissed
On Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, announced in a letter to Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, that the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) Act, a long-term care program created by the federal health reform law, will not be implemented.
In the letter, Sebelius states, "By 2020, we know that an estimated 15 million Americans will need some kind of long-term care and fewer than three percent have a long-term care policy."
As the need for long-term care continues to grow in the years that lie ahead, so too will the need for private long-term care insurance. While the federal CLASS Program proved not to be viable, Prudential LTC3SM and LTC EvolutionSM continue to be viable options for your clients' long-term care solutions.
